The Internet has changed the way that business is done today. Many companies are using the
Internet for electronic commerce. This use of the Internet is expanding quite rapidly both in

being used by many different organizations to market their firms, sell products, communicate
with customers and clients, and provide information on their organization. Four different
assignments are included in this area. The first assignment will serve to familiarize the student
with the World Wide Web. The assignment requires the student to browse the home pages of
accounting related organizations. Several questions requiring the students to provide written
comments about the different sites visited are included. The second assignment provides the
student with the links to several different organizations which accountants can join. This
assignment exposes the student to these organizations while further exposing the student to the
WWW. The third assignment requires the student to use the Internet to access two firms
financial statements and provide an analysis. The students will be directed to a very useful
homepage that provides an enormous amount of data about any company that is required to
report to the SEC. The Securities and Exchange Commission EDGAR database, available on the
Internet, is a great data source. The last assignment requires the student to send an E-mail
message to their professor. E-mail is the most used feature on the Internet. It is fast becoming
the most used method of communication in the business world.
